Wrote a review late last year, but it went poof!

So I had to go again...

Took a couple of friends last night. 12 years ago, one of them retired and treated us to a incredible golf trip to Pebble, Spyglass, Pasa Tiempo, and the 3 Bandon courses (all they had back then). I'd say being treated to a trip like that is worth a dinner or two at Hy's, no?

Fantastic night. Started off with the cheese bread as soon as we sat down and then drinks all around. Then Audy paid a visit to say hi. The atmosphere in Hy's just lends itself to having a good time. The drinks help too. We had a picture book I had made for the trip and the memories and stories started to flow. Oh to be 12 years younger and so much better at the game again...

Then the grinding began. Started with a split Caesar, a scallop appetizer, one Delmonico, and a coupla ribeyes. The meal was excellent. Scallops were top notch, cooked to perfection. If those scallops showed up at the pass, Gordon Ramsey woulda called everyone together and yelled out, THIS is how to cook a proper scallop, yes?!

My ribeye, medium-rare, was perfect as well. The baked was a little small, but I really shouldn't eat a giant one anyway. Plus, at least it comes with the meal and isn't a $10 add-on like some places. My company had nothing but good things to say about their steaks.

After all that, we only finished half of the ribeyes so we got the Hy's shopping bags for them and then skipped dessert as we were rolling around by then.

Absolutely recommend Hy's for any special night out.

Hy's has an interesting atmosphere. It's very 1920s and is a cool experience if you're into that.

The service at Hy's is excellent if you don't mind the constant interaction with the many servers that are always checking on you. I personally felt it could have been dialed down a bit. The servers were very nice and the free valet was super convenient.

The food is good, but not for the price. If you're looking for a steak that will melt in your mouth, check out one of the many other steakhouses (DKs, Signature, Ruth Chris, etc).

I enjoyed the experience but wouldn't go again. For the price there's much better steaks out there.

I was deciding between 3 or 4 stars and I have to go with 3. The free valet was nice and it's RIGHT by the entrance which I like. The ambiance and decoration set a nice tone for a fancy steakhouse and the hostesses were really nice and friendly and on top of bringing us our drinks while we were in the waiting area. We were told to arrive 20 min before our reservation time which we did and our table wasn't ready yet but it wasn't a problem for us we don't mind waiting especially if we're the early arrivers.
I actually liked sitting at the half circle booth, I don't know why. It was set for 4 and they came quickly to collect the extra table sets. My boyfriend made a funny comment about "you know this place is fancy when they never let your water reach half empty" which was true because they were always prompt on filling our glasses which is something I'm really picky about.
We love crab cakes, so we decided to order that for our appetizer. I was honestly slightly disappointed with the flavor or the sauce it sits in but it was still tasty. In all honestly if i had to compare it to Roys crab cakes I'd have to say Roys still beats them in size texture and flavor. Oh and the complementary cheese bread was super good. Too bad they only bring out one round of it.
For our entrees: my boyfriend ordered the bone-in rib eye. It was HUGE. Not as big as Haleiwa Joes but it was definitely more flavorful. I ordered from the seafood/meat section on the menu so the steak and lobster, I chose the 9 Oz New York strip from between that and the 7 Oz filet mignon with a baked potato. They brought me a filet mignon which I was slightly disappointed about because 1 I don't care for filets and 2 if both choices would've came out the same price I'm obviously gonna order the heavier Oz steak (that's just the way I think) but it was still cooked the way I liked it and I'm not one to complain about small stuff like that so I let it pass. The meat was super soft and easy to chew which is an experience I've never had with filets anywhere before, but it was slightly dry and not too flavorful.
We ordered sautéed mushrooms and a truffle king crab  Mac n cheese for our extra sides and both were delicious and I would say the price was fair for the amount they gave.
We were also dining here to celebrate my boyfriends promotion he got at work and I wanted to take him somewhere nice and our waitress was nice to bring us a small complimentary cheesecake with a raspberry sauce and it was super good. We really wanted to order from the dessert menu but we were super full from dinner. I was told about their Dulce cake and pop corn ice cream I was really wanting to try that but maybe next time if we ever do decide to come back.
One thing that I did not like at all was how warm the room was. It almost felt like there was no AC at all so I wasn't able to properly enjoy my food because of how uncomfortable I was.
Also, right before we left we got to watch our waitress prepare dessert for the table next to us which was really impressive and entertaining I believe they ordered the Sinatra's strawberry flambé. It looked really good and I wish I had ordered that too lol.

I absolutely love Hy's - literally everything about it. I used to come here every year for my birthday, so there might be a bit of nostalgia in it for me, but I've never been disappointed. I still remember how little 9 year old me was super upset about going to Hy's and getting steak for my birthday.. thankfully, service was great and they offered to make me a burger and fries. Well, best burger EVER.

So, to start off they give you cheese bread. I loooove their cheese bread. From reading the reviews, it seems like it can be a hit or miss experience, but personally, I've never had a bad experience with it. I could sit there and eat the entire basket if I wasn't worried about being too full for my meal! Highly, highly recommend one of their table side salads as well (caesar salad, warm spinach salad). Not only are the servers and "show" great, but it also gives you the option to really customize what you want - want extra dressing? ask! want more parmesan cheese? ask!

Before I started limiting my intake of red meat, I really enjoyed their filet mignon! However, I don't eat much red meat anymore.. so what do I do at a steakhouse you might ask? I'm usually pretty nervous about going to steak houses now because they really cater to the red meat eating crowd (obviously), but omg I love Hy's other options. Their shrimp risotto is amazing.. perfectly cooked, fresh shrimp, super rich. UGH I'm hungry now just thinking about it. I've also had the seafood bouillabaisse, which was also good, but I def recommend the shrimp risotto if you're trying to decide between the two.

Drinks here are STRONG. I ordered a dirty shirley w/grey goose (shirley temple + vodka) and boy, was I feeling it. I can't tell you much about their wine selection since I'm not very well-versed in wine language, but my mom always seems to enjoy whatever she gets! Lastly (and arguably, most important), dessert. Get one of the flambes!! The "show" is awesome (great for pics), and the flavors are all good. I've tried all the different types at least once (banana, strawberry, chocolate, seasonal - sometimes pineapple), but my fav is definitely banana.

Service here is top notch! Love how attentive and friendly everyone is. Don't forget to mention if you're here for a special occasion by the way! Super sad I'm not always back for my birthday anymore, so I kind of ruined the tradition.. but I'll always find an excuse to go back - who needs a celebration to eat delicious food anyway?

Mother's Day Dinner...couldn't have picked a better place!
Brett was our server this evening and he sure did everything right!! Perfect Caesar Salad, Tomahawk steak and Chocolate Lovers Dessert!
Hys continues to be consistently excellent...valet parking is efficient and courteous. Audie Kimura softly plays in the background and excellent food is served.
From the cheese bread to dessert...good thing we shared... we still rolled out of there fully contented.
